Terrific Term 4

This term has been action packed filled with exciting and new things. I have had a blast this term and can not wait to go to intermediate next year. Next year is going to be an exciting new adventure.

                                                                           Jump Jam 
One of my highlights were going to Taragua because we got into nationals, my team  and I were super excited. We practiced really hard and spent all our lunch times, were ready for the competition. That morning we had to wake up SUPER early and get ready and out the door by eight. I had all emotions through me as we all had eyes on the prize the trophy! As we all waited with emotions I was our turn we had been practicing everyday and it all came down to this moment. "Attention"Shouted Jamai we all went into our army mode the loud music pumped out of the speakers. I put all my energy, emotion, time to this. I had so much fun it was a blast a time I will never forget sadly the song ended but with joy and we all had smiles and definitely thought we had a shot at winning. Unfortunately they announced the winners we sadly did not get a placing I think we were all really disappointed. But we all had so much fun and it was all worth it in end all though we did not win in was still a memory i will never forget.


                                                                        Athletics 
Athletics was so enjoyable even though i did not win anything or come a placing it was still a blast. Unfortunately Nellie (the house captain) was sick but Mania still needed a house captain so when Koka Ngaire asked my hand shot straight up and I was the new house captain. I had so much fun being the house captain. But before you new it the races were done my race was coming up. Now i'm not the fastest runner in the school but I tried my very best and maybe running is not for me but i'm good at other things. The big clap went and I was of I did not get a placing but maybe next time sprints is not my best. Now it was time for high jump I was good at that but other people were better than me and again did not get a placing but I still did better that last were I accidentally went on the wrong side and could not jump. After that it was time to go to ball throw and yes again did not get a placing but my friends did and I was super happy for them. The day had finally come to an end I was glad it came to an end because I was exhausted.

Keen for Kapa Haka

It was the day for Kapa Haka a Wednesday like no other.The big hall showgrounds filled with people. With the whole school all together at Kapa Haka. All emotions run through me as we were all about to go on stage for the one and only Kapa Haka Festival. I quickly spot my dad in the huge crowd waiting for us to all come on stage and break the stillness. As I quickly snap in to my Kapa Haka mode. The tension finally breaks we all start singing our hearts out. The first song ends and I see my dad smiling with joy in his eyes with a feeling that felt proud of me and my sister. I quickly realise that there are so much people than I expected in the stadium at the showgrounds but I still kept singing loud and proud.



  A few songs had past and now it was my favorite song Utaina Mai . This was my favorite because we put all our energy into singing and the boys doing the Haka. Miriam (the girl in front of me) had a Piupiu and it was so beautiful because when we the takahia her skirt would flow. The boys  started doing there strong Haka which was a bit to fast but it still sounded amazing. All our actions were in time and all the work paid of and was so worth it. It was an amazing experience to be a part of.



At the end of the performance everyone had a beaming smile on there face. I think everyone in the audience also had a beaming smile on there face too. I felt so tired after that and a bit sad that it all went so fast  and that it was all over. After that I had a sore throat and I think I caught a cold but it was all worth it.

   

Te Poho O Rawiri

On a late Thursday night we all walked to the huge dining hall. We were going to have a show for all the parents who wanted to to come. First we had Kapa Haka and since the dining hall was so big it echoed and made us sound so loud. After Kapa haka the Jump Jam 

         Kapa Haka         team performed ( I am in the jump Jam team) I was so tired after that because I had put all my energy into Jump Jam( the song was called "Captain Jack")  . We made so many mistakes because we had not practiced enough. Then we had a few more shows and said goodbye to our parent and off they went , this is when the fun began. We got to set up our beds and we got some free time. 

In the early morning I heard some voices,  whispering. I woke to someone snoring like they had stayed up till midnight which they probably  had. Then Kya ( My sleeping buddy) got  ready together.  At this point I was exhausted and did not feel like walking up the Kaiti Hill but in the end I still did it. We packed our bags and got ready for our walk.

After that yummy delicious spaghetti on toast with some milo I was so ready for the walk. But then someone vomited on the way up so we didn't have to do the walk after all and it actually did not look to long after all. Then it was time to welcome the Wai kids to the Marae it was some much fun and we got to hear some more stories about the Marae which was very interesting.  After that we had the yummiest hot dogs ever then had some free time. Then after a long and tiring day we got on the fancy, cool  bus and traveled back to school.                                                              Ukulele 

                                                               

                                                                   

Sweet VS Sour

In week 6 we did the House of Science about sweet and sour. . We learnt all about what is acids and bases ( in the slides it will show you what acids and bases are). I found this so much fun because we got to make sherbet.

We made sherbet to find out what would happen if you put acid and bases in your mouth, and it turned out saliva has a reaction to make the sherbet froth up. Making sherbet is very simple all you need is flavoring - (your choice), baking soda, citric acid and icing sugar for a bit of sweetness.

The next day after that we found out what was a base and what was an acid. To tell what was base or acid we used pH paper it would change color depending what substance it was. Then we would measure it with a pH measuring tape whatever color it was on the paper it would show you if it is a base or an acid .If it was higher 7 it is a base and if it was lower than 7 it was an acid. The ingredients were:baking soda,citric acid icing sugar, vinegar and flavoring. The ones that were a base were baking soda and the ones that were acids were citric acid,flavoring icing sugar and vinegar.

In our third experiment was making a pH indicator by using red cabbage.We added hot water which created purple water. Then we put the cabbage water into our test tubes then added all sorts of different subcines to the tubes to see if it changed color.  A base is the darker colour and the light colours were an acid. Over all my favorite experiment was the sherbet because we got to eat and we learned something new also the sherbet was really good.

Exciting Enlighten Me

Welcome back to my blog. This week we are doing Enlighten Me for our House of Science. A mirror is a light of reflection, when you look at it bounces  in your eyes and that how you can see yourself. If you put two mirrors reflecting to the sun and you look into it you could get blind or damage your eyes really badly.

Not only do we do House of Science we also do some  reading with books so we read all about light. It was very interesting and we learnt lots about Albert Einstein like he found out light was made out of particles. I found this reading group so fun because I learnt lots about Sir Newton and other people like Hooke. 

Ice vs Heat

In week one my reading group learnt about climate change. It was super fun and interesting because we learnt all about what will happen in the future. We learnt about the Biosphere, the Atmosphere, the Geosphere and the Hydrosphere. We played Jenga and we could see if we took all the blocks away we would have no earth and no earth means no human.


Next we played a game to see if there is more water or land. I got in a pair  (which was Josefa) Josefa blew up the bouncy globe. Then we played thumbs up. We had to catch the ball and see what our thumbs landed on. We added up then used a calculator to see how much percent. In the end we landed on water more than land which means there's more water in the world.


Last we made the icebergs I was with Josefa again. We worked really hard on ours. We added salt ,water and food coloring to the ballon. Overall we learnt if we put it in a bucket of water(which we did) the water would not raise. We had to wait overnight for it to fully freeze  into an an iceberg.

I found this so much fun and could not wait to do it again.

Triumphant Term 2

This term our topic was about retro tech. I had so much fun doing this topic because we got to go to east coast  tech museum which was so amazing because we got to learn all about old things like what cars looked like in the olden days and hair dryers, apple slicers(that was my groups topic) and lots more. We had a blast there and I wish we could do this topic next term(term 3)

Also this term the Jump Jam team (including me) had an amazing journey to Napier were we competed out NINE team and won out of our region it was a journey I will never forget. I had never been to Napier so I was so pumped. We had so much fun and it was a great experience.

   

Winter Solstice

This week we had to write paragraph about Stonehenge,Newgrange and Maeshowe. i even found another one called Standing stones of Stenness it wasn't even on our list. I would love to learn about the Standing stones of Stenness. My favorite part about this quickwrite was that I got learn and see what all those landmarks were.

Hurific Homophones

Homophones are words that are spelled different but pronounced the same. At first I thought they were phones that you can use at home. Here are some it examples.

Electric Village

On the 9th of may we traveled to the museum and the  electric village. My favorite part was going on the electric scooters and seeing what the olden days people used to write with. The funnest part was seeing the mini robots swirling around. Over all I really enjoyed our trip I hope we go back there one day.

Super Said

 In class for 1 of our quick writes we had to say all the ways to say said. I write a lot with a little help from my friends.I did 52 words to say said. I will be using them in my writing to make it better than before.  I really liked this quick write because  I can always use hepes of new words to be different. Over all I want to do more like these quick writes.

Awesome Autobiography

In my writing group with Koka Ngiare, we are learning how to do a autobiography.It is super fun and interesting and I never knew what autobiography was and now I do. I hope you learn what a autobiography is.

Gorgeous Green house

My house is called green team also known as Mania we are the seahorses team altogether there are four teams. We are choosing the house captain 2 per team 1 boy and 1 girl I applied for it. I hope I get it. We find out on Friday.

Yahoo Year six camp

In Week 7 we traveled to camp Kaitawa Lake Waikaremoana . It was all the year 6s it was a blast. The whole thing was amazing and I will always remember all the moments that we did in camp Kaitawa.  Here are some slides to show you what we did and when we did it. 

2019 Plants, plants and more plants

Te Kura Tuatahi-o-Wainui  Ko Maunga Roa te Maunga Ko Te Poho-o-Rawiri te Marae Ko Hamanatua te Awa.  The sent of the fenor filling the air as Caitlyn Kya and I were busy digging and helping the plants some of them were huge and some of them were tiny. We cleared all the roots and fenor away from the flax. Our team all together did around about  13. Altogether in Moana hub we did all off them and got it finished it took a long time but it was all worth it at the end
